Deep Lymphatic and Myofascial Bodywork for Athletes
This is a more traditional Swedish/Deep-Tissue bodywork session. This session is best booked if you are looking for a more holistic session to help with general soreness, stress, or pain, or if you have multiple areas of the body that you want worked on. I do incorporate gua sha, cupping, and Theragun treatment on specific areas if called to do so. This service is best booked if it is your first session with me, or if you desire a combination of lymphatic drainage, mysofascial release, and traditional swedish and deep tissue massage. This is also a great choice for athletes who want deep general work for periodic upkeep.
The benefits of lymphatic drainage therapy include promoting detoxification, boosting immune function, improving skin health, improving overall well-being and relaxation, faster recovery from exercise and injury, and reducing pain, swelling and inflammation. While 1/3 of the body's lymph nodes are located in the face and neck, the lymphatic fluid runs through the entire body, draining excess fluid and toxins from the body and returning them to the bloodstream. While there are 6 main lymphatic bundles, all the lymph in the body is filtered through the two ports located underneath the collarbones and back into the bloodstream. Lymph nodes can become swollen for many reasons, but especially due to fascial distortions, fascial hardening, or adhesions which restrict the lymph vessels causing lymph nodes to swell and excess fluid to back up in the body. This is why I work with both the fascia and the lymphatic system when doing lymph drainage work, in order to address the primary causes of the blockages in the lymphatic system and open the pathways for drainage to occur more effectively.
Myofascial release therapy is beneficial for enhanced athletic performance, improved flexibility and range of motion, injury prevention recovery, relief from muscle tension and spasms, and improved circulation and lymphatic flow. Fascia is a 3-dimensional web of connective tissue that permeates the entire body. Constantly growing, dissolving and shifting it is the matrix which the entire body operates within. Fascial distortions such as hardening, folding, twisting or tearing often occur as a result of injury, recovery from injury, or in order to support a particular habit or movement pattern. This can cause pain, restriction of movement, and inflammation. I treat myofascial distortions with a combination of hands on massage, gua sha 'scraping', cupping, massage gun treatment. I also work with the lypmphatic system while doing myofascial release as hardened fascia or adhesions will almost always cause fluid backup in the lymph vessels upstream of the distortion.
My goal is to empower holistic well-being and athletic performance through intuitive bodywork therapy, especially myofascial release and lymphatic drainage, and to educate and empower clients in self-care for their growth and healing journeys.
